Driver arrested in auto-pedestrian crash identified

Police identified Tuesday a 55-year-old woman arrested the day before after a 10-year-old boy was seriously injured when he was struck by a car in the northeast valley, according to Las Vegas police.

Police say Mara Swenson was westbound on Owens Avenue in a 1998 Lincoln Navigator about 3:40 p.m. As the vehicle approached the intersection of Linnbaker Lane, near Lamb Boulevard, two boys were crossing Owens in the path of oncoming vehicles, police said.

Swenson tried to avoid hitting the boys, but hit the 10-year-old boy and he was thrown to the road. The second boy was not hurt and left the scene.

The injured boy was taken to University Medical Center with a broken femur and minor head injuries. Police said Monday night that because of his age, his injuries were considered serious.

Swenson was not injured. She was booked on charges of driving under the influence.

This incident remains under investigation.
