BASS PRO SHOPS OFFERS
FALL HUNTING CLASSIC

Bass Pro Shops’ Fall Hunting Classic is set through Aug. 18 at 8200 Dean Martin Drive. The annual event provides hunters with opportunities to attend free seminars led by nationally recognized professional hunters, take advantage of special offers and enter a sweepstakes to win the Once in a Lifetime Hunting Trip.

During the Fall Hunting Classic, nationally recognized professional hunters, local pros and/or outdoorsmen and women will be at the Las Vegas store to give seminars and talk about their experiences.

The event kicks off with Bass Pro Shops Hunting University, which features free classes taught by top pros. Appearances, times and topics are subject to change.

DASH AND SPLASH PLANNED aug. 17
AT PAVILION CENTER POOL

Dash and Splash is planned with the race beginning at 8 a.m. Aug. 17 at Pavilion Center Pool, 101 S. Pavilion Center Drive.

Doors open at 7:30 a.m.

Cost is $15 preregistration and $20 on event day.

Begin with a 1.5-mile run starting at Pavilion Center Pool and winding through Veterans Memorial Park. The race will conclude with a 300-meter swim at Pavilion Center Pool. There is no age limit, but participants must be able to swim 100 meters successfully.

MAT PILATES OFFERED EACH SATURDAY

A Fit Fannie Workout is planned at 6 p.m. Wednesdays at the DavidBarton Gym at Tivoli Village, 302 S. Rampart Blvd. The class is complimentary, and guest passes to the gym will be available. Stroller Strides are planned at 9 a.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at Tivoli Village.

The city of Las Vegas plans to offer open swim times at area pools for the summer season. Pavilion Center Pool, 101 S. Pavilion Center Drive, is scheduled to have open swim for all ages from 2 to 6 p.m., Monday-Saturday through Aug. 17.

GOLF RATES LOWERED FOR SUMMER

Golf enthusiasts can take advantage of long summer days with Golf Summerlin’s discounted rates at its three courses. Through Sept. 22, Golf Summerlin invites players to tee off at Highland Falls, 10201 Sun City Blvd.; Palm Valley, 9201 Del Webb Blvd.; or Eagle Crest, 2203 Thomas W. YOGA CLASS FOR ALL FITNESS LEVELS
SLATED AT SAHARA WEST LIBRARY

Free seated yoga stretch classes with Carol Dickman of stretch.com are scheduled for 2 p.m. the second Friday of the month at the Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave., and the third Friday of the month at the Rainbow Library, 3150 N. Buffalo Drive.

SUMMER CAMP AVAILABLE

Summer camp at the Landero Learning Center, 9620 Las Vegas Blvd. South, is planned through Aug. 23.

SPRINKLER SPRINT PLANNED DOWNTOWN

The Las Vegas Downtown Runners’ inaugural Sprinkler Sprint is planned for Aug. 10. Start times are 7 a.m. for those without children and 8 a.m. for others. The 5K race begins at Las Vegas Academy, 315 S. Seventh St., and winds its way through water obstacles. Tickets range from $35 to $55.

NONPROFIT PLANS MOUNTAIN GETAWAY
FOR DISADVANTAGED YOUTHS, ADULTS

The nonprofit Torino Foundation invites hundreds of disadvantaged children each summer to its Torino Ranch, where kids can experience summer camp through specialized programs under medical supervision, ensuring that each person gets the chance to have fun and make friends while gaining lifelong memories. Torino Foundation now offers camp experiences to teens and adults who were not able to have the chance in their youth. Every camp is residential, coed and free to the participants.

The remaining camp planned for 2013 is:

n Camp Some More: Aug. 9-11: a camp designed for the mothers and children of The Shade Tree, an organization helping those affected by domestic violence.

FREE SWIMMING SHOW PLANNED

SIGN UP FOR SUMMER CAMPS

The city of Las Vegas invites parents to enroll children in summer day camp programs at six area community centers. Open registration is ongoing at several locations until the camps are full.

Registration must be done in person. All locations will have limited enrollment. Contact each location for details.

Summer camps are scheduled for 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Age-appropriate activities, including field trips, sports, special events, physical fitness and games, arts and crafts and nutrition training are planned under the supervision of trained staff members.

The following locations will offer summer camps, priced at $75 per child for the week and $70 for additional children in the family:

n Cimarron Rose Community Center, 5591 N. Cimarron Road, 702-229-1607, ages 6 to 11. Camp ends Aug. 23.

n Doolittle Community Center, 1950 N. J St., 702-229-6374, ages 6 to 15. Camp ends Aug. 16.

Two community centers plan to offer themed weeklong specialty camps with additional activities, cooking and/or field trips. The cost will be $115 per child for the week and $110 for additional children, for most camps. A few specialty camps have higher prices. Participants will enjoy a new recreation experience every week, community outings, sports, games, arts and crafts, swimming and movies. SHRINERS golf tournament
PLANNED FOR OCTOBER AT TPC summerlin

The 2013 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open golf tournament is planned for Oct. 14-20 at TPC Summerlin, 1700 Village Center Circle. The Shriners Hospitals for Children Open is an official PGA Tour event. The 2013 tournament is set to feature more than 130 PGA Tour professionals competing for a $6 million purse, with a winner’s share of $1,080,000. All proceeds will benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children.

The event’s fourth annual Women’s Day luncheon, Kick Off Your Heels, is planned for Oct. 15. It will be catered and feature a guest speaker. Tickets are $125 per guest. The luncheon sold out in 2012, so early purchases are encouraged.

HUMANA GUIDANCE CENTERS SPONSOR WALKING GROUPS

Humana Guidance Centers are offering free walking groups led by a certified personal trainer. The program aims to positively affect seniors’ health by motivating and engaging them to take action and improve their fitness level and mental outlook by learning the proper walking and stretching techniques.

Participants will receive a free pedometer and at the end of each outing can upload their steps at a Guidance Center computer kiosk or at home to tracks steps taken, distance and calories burned.

LEISURE CONNECTION SOCIAL GROUP OUTINGS PLANNED EACH MONTH

Leisure Connection for those 22 or older with developmental disabilities is a social group planned each month. The outings are geared to assist high-functioning adults with social skills and independence in the community. PENTA GOLF CHARITY RAISES FUNDS
FOR NONPROFITS

The PENTA Building Group recently hosted its ninth annual PENTA Charity Golf Classic at the Revere Golf Club, 2600 Hampton Road. Golf participants, subcontractors and vendors who attended the tournament raised $100,000 for the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation and the Women’s Development Center. Each organization received $50,000 to support its mission.

The groups strive to provide support for community members in need. The Women’s Development Center provides a broad range of housing services, including transitional housing for the homeless and foreclosure intervention services. The Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation offers free social, emotional, educational and psychological support services for families of children diagnosed with life-threatening or critical illnesses.

The World Tenpin Bowling Association World Championships are planned Aug. 16-30 at the Strike Zone Bowling Center in Sunset Station, 1301 W. Sunset Road. The North Las Vegas recreation division’s activity schedule of classes, sports and recreation programs is available.

The city’s recreation division offers a variety of affordable activities for adults and children, including personal training at the gym, adult and child dance classes, gymnastics, ceramics and martial arts.

NEW A.G.E. EVENTS FOR THOSE
WITH DISABILITIES PLANNED

New A.G.E. for those 22 or older with developmental disabilities is set from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the Centennial Hills Active Adult Center, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive. The program offers a variety of activities and special events that promote individuality, self-esteem and independence. The cost is $21 for one to three days, $28 for four days and $35 for five days each week.

SUMMER RECREATION EVENTS OPEN
FOR YOUTHS AND TEENS

The Dula Gym’s Summer Open Recreation for youths and teens ages 10-18 is set to be open noon to 3 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays at 441 E. Bonanza Road. Youths can attend Fridays and Saturdays when the gym is available. The recreation periods include open gym and weekly competitions in games and sports and are free with RecPass for participants 18 or younger with parent/guardian approval.

The Lorenzi Adaptive Recreation Program for those ages 7 to 21 with disabilities is set from 1 to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave. Participants can enjoy a new recreation experience every week, community outings, sports, games, arts and crafts, swimming and movies. The cost is $27 for one to three days, $36 for four days and $45 for five days, per person.
