at concert for FAmily promise

Singer-songwriter Ken Medema plans to deliver his second benefit concert to raise money for Family Promise of Las Vegas, a nonprofit that helps homeless families in the Las Vegas Valley achieve lasting independence.

‘Legends in Concert’ at Harrah’s is offering locals discount during May

“Legends in Concert” plans to celebrate 28 years of shows on the Las Vegas Strip by offering a special locals discount during May. The show is performed twice nightly, six nights per week in the Harrah’s Showroom at Harrah’s Las Vegas, 3475 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Nevada residents can purchase a general admission ticket, regularly priced at $55.45, for only $28 (plus taxes and fees). There is a limit of six tickets per order, and guests most show a valid Nevada ID at the box office.

Local residents can get half-price tickets to ‘Piano! Las Vegas’

“Piano! Las Vegas” at the V Theater inside the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino is offering half-price tickets to Las Vegas residents. ‘The Lion King’ offers Locals discount
on children’s tickets throughout May

Disney’s “The Lion King” at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino is introducing its first locals’ ticket offer just for children. For weekend matinee performances during May, each adult purchasing a full-price ticket can purchase two child tickets for only $15. Tickets can be purchased at the Mandalay Bay box office or the MGM Resorts Call Center at 877-632-7000. Mention “ROAR” for purchase. The ticket offer is available for the 4 p.m. performance of “The Lion King” on Saurdays and Sundays in May with a valid Nevada ID. Children must be younger than 17; there is a maximum of two child tickets per one adult ticket.

Local residents can get discounted tickets to ‘Matsuri’ at Imperial Palace

From now until May 31, local residents can purchase tickets to “Matsuri,” a production of 15 Japanese acrobats, gymnasts, dancers and comedians who perform at the Imperial Palace, for $20, plus box office fees and tax, with a valid Nevada ID.

Since the earthquake and tsunami struck Japan in March, the show has been collecting donations at each performance to assist with relief efforts.

In addition, through May, “Matsuri” will donate $5 for each locals ticket purchased to the American Red Cross. The show already has raised more than $2,000 and hopes to reach $10,000 by the end of May.

“Matsuri” plays at 4 p.m. Saturdays through Wednesdays and 8 p.m. Fridays. Tickets are available at the Imperial Palace box office, at vegas.com or by calling 888-777-7664.

Imagine Dragons to release

Reggae in the Desert celebrates a decade of bringing national acts to the local stage during the 10th annual festival June 11 at the Clark County Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway. The Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society plans to present “Cole Porter Pops” at 7 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at the Nicholas Horn Theatre at the College of Southern Nevada, 3200 E. Cheyenne Road. The program will feature the Musical Arts Chorus and guest soloists in music by Cole Porter. The chorus plans to perform more than 30 songs, including “In the Still of the Night.”

former review-journal editor’s exhibit open at left of center art gallery

A tribute to the photography of the late Las Vegas Review-Journal assistant city editor Warren Bates is on display at Left of Center Art Gallery, 2207 W. Gowan Road.

The exhibit is called “Road to Zzyzx.” Its images document deserted areas in and around the desert settlement. It is scheduled to run through June 4.

Bates died in April 2010, 7 miles outside the California ghost town of Amboy, more than 130 miles from Las Vegas, when a train broadsided his car. He was 49.
