Super Summer Theatre continues with ‘Fiddler on the Roof’

Super Summer Theatre plans to begin performances of the musical "Fiddler on the Roof" Aug. 10 at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park.

"Fiddler on the Roof" is a musical surrounding the life of Tevye, a dairyman, as he attempts to live a normal life filled with Jewish traditions in early 20th-century Russia.

Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday through Aug. 27.

Parking opens at 5 p.m., and meadow seating starts at 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $12 at the UNLV Performing Arts box office, Prestige Travel’s new location at 7550 W. Lake Mead Blvd. (Buffalo Drive and Lake Mead) or online at unlvtickets.com. Park entrance after 5 p.m. is free with show ticket.

Las vegas Men’s Chorus announces new director for 2011-12 season

The Las Vegas Men’s Chorus has announced some changes for its 2011-12 season: a new director, a new schedule and a new direction.

Bruce Ewing has been chosen as the new musical director/conductor. He currently is performing nightly in "Phantom — The Las Vegas Spectacular."

Rehearsal are set from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Sundays at the Community Lutheran Church, 3720 E. Tropicana Ave., between Pecos and Sandhill roads.

Rain nightclub at the palms to host cancer fundraiser

A coalition of five cancer-fighting organizations and five local celebrities will battle it out on the dance floor from 2 to 5 p.m. Aug. 14 at Rain nightclub at the Palms, 4321 W. Flamingo Road.

The second annual "Dancing with the Las Vegas Stars" fundraiser is based on the hit ABC television show "Dancing with the Stars." Each charity will have a star competing on its behalf in a ballroom dance competition. Tickets are $50 per person and include a glass of wine.

Audience members and the public may show their support by voting for their favorite charity/dancer. Votes are a $2 donation and are unlimited and may be purchased at the event or at dancingwiththelasvegasstars.com.

Dierks Bentley to headline Coyote Country Fest at The Orleans Arena

Coyote Country Fest returns to The Orleans Arena, 4500 W. Tropicana Ave., with country music stars Dierks Bentley, Craig Campbell and Randy Houser performing at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 19.

BABY LOVES DISCO TOUR SWINGS INTO TOWN

Baby Loves Disco Superhero Tour is making its way to Las Vegas from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort, 101 Montelago Blvd.

The event offers family-friendly activities and allows babies to dance and play.

A portion of the proceeds are supposed to go to donorschoose.org, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting local schools by providing essential classroom supplies to teachers.

CAROUSEL at The District to OFFER FREE RIDES DURING SUMMER

The District at Green Valley Ranch, 2240 Village Walk Drive, announced that it is planning to give free rides on its carousel.

Normally, a ride costs $2 per guest.

The carousel features 32 animals and two chariot carts.

Summer hours are 3 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 3 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

PURPLE HEART RECIPIENTS to be HONORED AT EVENT

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1753 is planning to host the seventh annual "Salute To Our Veterans" show from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the South Point, 9777 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

Village Square theater to show Shakespeare classics

Classic Shakespeare works are planned to be shown in movie theaters this summer.

Each performance will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Village Square 18, 9400 W. Sahara Ave.

"Henry IV Part 2" is scheduled for Aug. 18 and "Henry VIII" for Sept. 15.

Each includes a 20-minute historical perspective on the Globe Theatre and its reconstruction.

Festival in the Pines set for Saturday on Mount Charleston

The 20th annual Festival in the Pines fair hosted by and benefiting the Spring Mountains Volunteer Association is planned for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort, 6725 Lee Canyon Road on Mount Charleston.

Several arts and crafts vendors and booths with information about outdoor education and recreation in the Spring Mountains National Recreational Area will be available.

The rotating lineup of reptiles to be featured includes rattlesnakes, the desert night snake, gopher snakes and a Gila monster. Animals will be separated from the audience by an enclosure for safety purposes.

The Onyx Theatre, 953 E. Sahara Ave., No. 16, plans to host David de Alba in August and September.

The first show is set for 5 p.m. Aug. 21 and will feature de Alba and Paul (Lavern) Cummings, the two surviving members of San Francisco’s famed Finocchio Club, which featured female impersonators. They will conduct a live retrospective interview of their days at the Finocchio Club. The show is free, but donations will be accepted.

The second show, "David de Alba’s Finoccho Club Backstage Memories," is set for 5 p.m. Sept. 18. The one-man show will include stories of the Finocchio Club, performances of de Alba’s best-known songs, photos and videos and more. Admission is $10.
