Sample bands and beers at Brew Las Vegas
September 12, 2011 - 11:17 pm
Ryan Wieczorek is out for an unforgettable experience with no hiccups.
As organizer of Brew Las Vegas, a beer-tasting event and festival, he says he can promise at least one.
Think UNLVino hopped off the vine.
"It’s going to be interactive and different than other beer festivals," Wieczorek said.
Brew Las Vegas is planned from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Friday in the 5-acre parking lot at the Royal Resort, 99 Convention Center Drive. An indoor section will be provided, too.
Selections from more than 50 different beers from Las Vegas, Reno, Southern California and Southern Utah will be available.
Wieczorek said there will be a proverbial circling of the wagons of food trucks and a battle of the bands slated to feature Red Wine Rewind, Play For Keeps, Spadoni and Sin Camisas.
Attendees will vote on the best band. The winning band will receive bragging rights and a headlining spot on the Wha Wha Wine Tour, hosted by DK-K!2.
Ms. Brew Las Vegas will be crowned after a guest-voted bikini and beer-chugging contest.
The winner receives a dinner for himself and 20 friends at Lavo in the Palazzo Las Vegas, 3327 Las Vegas Blvd. South.
Tickets are $25.
All proceeds benefit the Beverage Management Club at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, the UNLV Epicurean Society and the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration Alumni Chapter.
Wieczorek said he fancies himself a beer lover thanks to a UNLV professor who helped him appreciate craft brews.
He said he’s targeting students and alumni with Brew Las Vegas.
Family-owned Joseph James Brewing Co., 155 N. Gibson Road, is slated to bring its host of craft beers to the festival.
Director of operations Matthew Lisowski said Brew Las Vegas will be the first event at which its canned beer will available.
"We just love sharing our passion for craft beer," Lisowski said. "It’s another opportunity for people to try a local Nevada brew."
The event is for those 21 or older.
