THE ATTIC CLOSES AFTER BID TO BOUNCE BACK FROM NEARBY EXPLOSION IN 2010

The Attic Vintage Clothing Company, 1025 S. Main St., has closed for business because of “delaying tactics relating to (its) lawsuit against NV Energy,” according to owner Mayra Politis.

The vintage fashion store that opened in 1992 was forced to downsize from its former 10,000-square-foot building to a 2,000-square-foot facility in July 2010 after an NV Energy substation exploded, causing significant damage to the store and nearby businesses.

Politis filed a lawsuit against NV Energy and Southwest Gas Corp. in December 2011 after struggling to reach financial settlements with both companies for damages to the store. Neither NV Energy nor Southwest Gas have taken blame for the explosion.

“The Attic wants to extend its sincere thanks to the Las Vegas locals, the national and international tourists and celebrities who frequented and supported or store over the years,” Politis said in a statement. “With heavy hearts, we bid you farewell.”

The Attic was known as a popular tourist destination and included clientele such as Drew Barrymore, David Arquette and Carrot Top. It also was featured in a Visa commercial that aired during the final episode of “Seinfeld” in 1998.
