PROSPECTIVE HOME BUYERS CAN RECEIVE HELP WITH PROCESS AT UPCOMING FAIR

U.S. Sen. Harry Reid is slated to host a Smart Start Homebuyer Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the East Las Vegas Community Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave.

The fair, being put on in conjunction with the city of Las Vegas, is set to offer information on programs to help people become homeowners.

NATHAN ADELSON HOSPICE PLANS BUTTERFLY RELEASE AT SYMPHONY PARK

Nathan Adelson Hospice plans its to host its annual Butterfly Release Sunday at Symphony Park, 361 Symphony Park Ave., with a ceremony starting at 2 p.m. and the release of the butterflies at 2:30 p.m.

The event will consist of a nondenominational dedication, followed by the release of live butterflies in honor and/or memory of loved ones.

NEON MUSEUM EXPANDS HOURS
TO SEVEN DAYS A WEEK

The Neon Museum, 770 Las Vegas Blvd. North, has expanded its tour schedule to seven days a week.

Visitors can book hour-long tours of the outdoor museum . The tours begin every half-hour starting at 10 a.m., Monday through Friday.

Admission is $12 for Nevada residents with a valid ID.

TOUR OF DEMONSTRATION GARDENS SCHEDULED FOR MAY 11

Clark County Master Gardeners are set to offer a tour at 10 a.m. May 11 at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s Demonstration Gardens, 8050 Paradise Road .

The tour is slated to cover desert-adapted plants that can be grown in home gardens.

The Demonstration Gardens contain more than 500 species of desert-appropriate landscape plants, such as trees, shrubs, perennials, palms, cactuses and agaves.

The grounds are open for self-guided walks from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

To join the May 11 tour, visitors must meet in the property’s courtyard by 10 a.m.

SPRINGS PRESERVE TO CONTINUE
OFFERING COOKING WORKSHOPS

The Culinary Academy of Las Vegas is set to continue its cooking workshops at the Springs Preserve, 333 S. Valley View Blvd.

Vegetables Under Fire, a workshop on how to grill vegetables , is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon May 18.

The workshop costs $30 for Springs Preserve members and $40 for non members. Reservations are required .

TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION SEEKS INPUT ON PROPOSED TRANSIT SERVICE CHANGES

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada is seeking public input on proposed transit service changes scheduled to take effect July 7, pending community feedback.

Proposed changes to some routes include: increased frequencies, schedule and span of service adjustments in addition to modifications to the Boulder Highway Express, the Henderson & Downtown Express, Route 212-Sunset Road and Route 402-Sunset/Boulder City. Also, boarding changes are proposed on the Sahara, Boulder Highway and Henderson & Downtown express routes. A full list of proposed changes is available at rtcsnv.com.

NV ENERGY TAKING APPLICATIONS
FOR SOLAR GENERATIONS PROGRAM

NV Energy’s SolarGenerations program is accepting applications through 5 p.m. May 17 for the next round of solar energy projects.

Successful applicants will be eligible for rebates to help offset their installation costs for photovoltaic panels that convert sunlight into electricity.

Residential customers and small businesses are eligible. Participants must be NV Energy electric customers.

At the close of the application period, if any category is oversubscribed, participants will be chosen by a lottery conducted by a third party.

Rebates for the next round of projects range from $1.25 to $1.35 per watt for residential customers and small businesses and from $2.80 to $3.10 per watt for schools and public buildings. For program and allocation details, visit nvenergy.com/renewablesenvironment/renewablegenerations.

MUSIC FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES
INAUGURAL EVENT DATES

The Life Is Beautiful music festival’s inaugural run is set for Oct. 26 and 27.

Organizers hope to attract thousands of people to enjoy live music, culinary demonstrations, art exhibitions and speaker forums in existing and temporary venues across more than 10 city blocks in and surrounding the Fremont East District of downtown Las Vegas.

A complete lineup of musical acts is forthcoming, according to the release.
