The floral and horticulture team at The Venetian and the Palazzo recently received the 2014 Diamond Plantscape Award from the Plantscape Institute of America for the 2013 Fall Into ECO 360° installation. The feature of the display, a 1934 Hudson car, was transformed using succulents, lichen, moss, grapevine and approximately 5,000 drought-resistant plants. (Special to View)

Recently, more than 30 Bank of America employees participated in Three Square’s Saturday Sort-A-Thon, packing 3,375 pounds of apples to be distributed to those in need in the community. The event was sponsored by the bank’s Hispanic/Latino Organization for Leadership and Advancement employee network group. (Bank of America/Special to View).

On Sept. 9, 2014, Bank of America volunteers loaded up a large truck and hand-delivered more than 12,000 supplies to students at Sandy Miller Elementary and Monaco Middle School. Bank employee A.J. Jackson hands supplies to a student. The supplies were collected throughout the month of August during the bank's fourth annual school supply drive. Items collected include paper, backpacks, pens and pencils, P.E. equipment and school uniform garments. Former Nevada First Lady and avid community activist Sandy Miller was in attendance during the delivery at Sandy Miller Elementary School. (Special to View)

Gavin B. Peck
Air Force Airman Gavin B. Peck graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Peck is the son of Rodney B. Peck of Great Falls, Mont., and Christine D. Peck of Las Vegas.
Air Force Airman Dylan S. Mclain graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Mclain is the son of Mark T. Mclain of Henderson and of Christine J. Robinson of Naples, Fla. He is a 2008 graduate of Green Valley High School.
Jacob Andrew Wagner of Henderson and Federico Julian White of Las Vegas were two of 337 graduates of Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kan., in the summer 2014 term.
Army Pvt. Evgeny Vorotnikov graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Vorotnikov is the son of Valentina Estrada of North Las Vegas. He is a 2011 graduate of Legacy High School.
Danica Drezner of Las Vegas became a first-generation college student at Boston University and is now a winner of the I’m First Scholarship, awarded by the nonprofit Center for Student Opportunity.
Trinity Allen of Las Vegas won the bronze medal as a member of the Jr. US National Team at the Jr. Pan American Karate Championships in Lima, Peru. Trinity is an eighth-grader at Becker Middle School and trains at Hiro Karate in the Las Vegas Sportspark.
Air Force Airman Janeal E. Collins graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Collins is the son of Virgilia and Jeffrey Collins of Las Vegas and is a 2012 graduate of Cimarron-Memorial High School.
Air Force Airman David W. Fields graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Fields is the son of Patricia A. and David S. Fields of Henderson and the brother of Lindsay M. Nance of Las Vegas. He graduated in 2009 from Foothill High School. His next duty station is the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, Calif.
Angelica Parvaz of Las Vegas graduated from Concordia University in Nebraska in August.
Army Pfc. Jada Gonzalez graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Gonzalez is the daughter of Sam Gonzalez and Julie Valdez and stepdaughter of Joe Valdez, all of Las Vegas. She is a 2014 graduate of Nevada State High School.
Carena McCary of Las Vegas was honored at the Southern Arkansas University Summer Commencement on Aug. 8 at the Reynolds Center Grand Hall.
Jillian Johnson, 15, of Las Vegas has been accepted and will attend Interlochen Arts Academy, the world’s premier fine arts boarding high school. Johnson, the daughter of Paul and Kathryn Johnson, was a student at Las Vegas Academy. She has auditioned and won several scholarships since her studies began in sixth grade.
At a special judges’ meeting on Aug. 27, the judges of the Las Vegas Justice Court unanimously selected Vice Chief Judge Joe Bonaventure to be the court’s next chief judge; he will begin a two-year term in January. Bonaventure was elected Justice of the Peace in Department 9 of Las Vegas Justice Court in 2004. He is a lifelong resident of Las Vegas, a graduate of Bishop Gorman High School, the business college at UNLV and the charter class at the William S. Boyd School of Law at UNLV.
