Literary Las Vegas: Shirley Kennedy

Literary Las Vegas

When Kristi Andrews is hired as assistant marketing director at Las Vegas’ legendary Parthenon hotel and casino, she’s thrilled to be taking the first steps into her dream job. The job soon becomes a nightmare the first time she hears a mysterious voice whisper, “Kristi … prepare to die.”

Released June 14, “Deadly Gamble,” the newest romance novel by local author Shirley Kennedy, follow’s Kristi’s quest, alongside a dashing Western novelist who saves her life, to unravel the mystery haunting the Parthenon. The journey takes them more than 160 years into Nevada’s past, searching for clues in the oasis that is now the Springs Preserve.

Kennedy worked as a computer programmer before giving up her day job to write full time. She is the author of several Regency and Western romances published through Ballantine Books, Signet Regency Romance, Camel Press and Inkspell Publishing. For more on the author, visit shirleykennedy.com.

Excerpt from ‘Deadly Gamble’

“Adele Gallamore believes in ghosts. She says there’s a ghost right here in the casino.”

“You can’t be serious.”

“I am.” Tiffany giggled. She was prone to giggling. “I was in her shop yesterday and that’s what she told me.”

“So what kind of ghost is it?” Kristi flicked a glance at the wall clock. She didn’t have time for this.

“She didn’t say what kind of ghost it was exactly, only that somebody’s claiming there’s an evil presence at the Parthenon. She wants to talk to you about it.”

Wonderful. On a morning like this, all she needed was a haunted casino. “I seriously doubt this hotel, or any hotel in Las Vegas, is haunted. Even if it is, the ghost will have to wait. Right now I’ve got to concentrate on the Walkers.”

Tiffany shrugged. “Okay, but I bet you anything Adele won’t let this go.”
