Literary Las Vegas

View cartoonist Mike Miller’s children’s book "Play in the Clouds," a title from the Tomas the Tortoise Adventures series, is scheduled to represent Nevada at the 12th Annual Library of Congress National Book Festival in Washington, D.C., Sept. 22.

The book is set to be featured by the Nevada State Library in the Pavilion of the States on the Washington Mall. The pavilion salutes the literary traditions of the 50 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. territories. "Play in the Clouds" will also be featured in the Library of Congress’ brochure, "Discover Great Places Through Reading," which will be available in the pavilion.

"Each state selects only one book from their state to represent adventures in reading," said Stephens Press publisher Carolyn Hayes Uber, the book’s publisher. "The committee liked the book because it was for children and highlighted the great diversity of our state’s landscape and dispels the myth that Nevada is only a vast desert."

While only a limited number of the books are available through amazon.com, Uber said many of the other titles in the series can be found in bookstores.

Miller’s credits include working on "Sleeping Beauty" and "101 Dalmatians" at Disney Studios and work as a scenic artist for NBC and MGM Studios.
