Las Vegan Cecilia Arnold’s “Remnants of Paradise” is packed with 22 poems, most intended to express her vision of a miraculous world “for us to enjoy and reside in, and we cannot continue to take it for granted.”

Some of her poems, in a section titled “Lost in the Weeds of Needs,” also address misguided young people.

Arnold has a degree in psychology with an English minor. She has worked as a teacher and in law enforcement support.

The Sheltering Wind

After the thaw…

Mariah flung open nature’s stately front door for the crisp brilliance and fragrance of spring once more.

New buds of purple crocuses woke with a yawn to trilling wind-songs and praises to splendid dawn.

At noon the winds became playful and capricious tickling giggling lilies and new born hibiscus.

Twilight winds a gentle and romantic zephyr kissed primrose petals, the fragrant lips of nature.

Nightly the winds from the sea let breezes escape and blew the sweet scent of hyacinths in her wake.

Mariah made her exit after March was through

April in triple time waltzed out for her debut.
