Amy Purdy, bronze medalist in snowboarding at the 2014 Sochi Paralympics, “Dancing With the Stars” finalist and co-founder of the nonprofit Adaptive Action Sports, is set to talk about her debut book “On My Own Two Feet: The Journey from Losing My Legs to Learning the Dance of Life” at 7 p.m. Jan. 15 in the Clark County Library, 1401 E. The Las Vegas native shares the story of her tangle with bacterial meningitis in her new book written with Michelle Burford. Within hours of experiencing flu-like symptoms, she found herself in the hospital on life support making the choice to live without legs.

Las Vegas First Friday Poets were planning to take poetry to the streets from 5 to 11 p.m. Jan. 2 during the monthly First Friday arts festival. But when First Friday organizers canceled all outdoor events due to frigid weather, the poetry gathering was put on hold for a month.

The national StoryCorps’ Memory Loss Initiative encourages people with memory loss to share their stories with loved ones and future generations.
