First Friday
First Friday is slated to take place in the 18b Arts District downtown from 5 to 11 p.m. Friday . For information on parking, shuttles and a schedule of entertainment, visit firstfridaylasvegas.com. Many galleries also host open house previews with artist receptions from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
This month’s event’s theme is “First Vegas Burn!: The Flame of Change,” signifying a transition from old traditions to new. A public burn, a car extravaganza and various performances are scheduled.
Activities planned and galleries scheduled to participate include:
n The Arts District Hub at Casino Center Boulevard and Colorado Avenue plans to host a ceremonial burning of Lucky Lady Lucy, a 20-foot wooden sculpture, at 8 p.m.
n The Funkhouse, 1228 S. Casino Center Blvd., plans to showcase “Curve of the Spine,” an exhibit on female authors and characters in books, with works from Gina Quaranto, Montana Black, Amy Gardner, Carrie Bourdeau and Amy Gonzalez.
n The Contemporary Arts Center inside The Arts Factory, 107 E. Charleston Blvd., Suite 120, plans to continue showing its latest exhibition, “Defeat the Future,” with works from Yo Fukui, Antonio Sterna, Chad Stayrook, Naoko Wowsugi and Richard A. Wagner. Works include paintings, sculptures, photographs and more from the five New York artists.
n Trifecta Gallery inside The Arts Factory, 107 E. Charleston Blvd., plans to present paintings by local artist Mary Warner.
n The Jenny Valdez Inc. Gallery inside The Arts Factory, 107 E. Charleston Blvd., plans to display works from Valdez, pottery artist Barbara Gomez and painters Theresa Lucero, Jaye, Lynne Adamson, Nicholas Walsh and Jana Lynch.
n City of the World, 1229 S. Casino Center Blvd., plans to present the work of Mandell Maull in the main gallery.
n The Rotunda Gallery inside the Clark County Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway, plans to continue showing “Green Felt Jungle Gym” through March 23.
n Sin City Gallery inside The Arts Factory, 107 E. Charleston Blvd., Suite 100, plans to showcase works from New Zealand artist JK Russ in his “Desert of Earthly Delights” exhibition.
