James Leonard, a student at Cashman Middle School, will participate in the U.S. Naval Academy’s Summer Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics program Monday through June 11 at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
The STEM program gives students in grades eight through 11 who are in good academic standing the opportunity to experience applications of math and science principles through hands-on practical learning.
Leonard is the son of Larry and Susan Leonard of Henderson.
Benjamin S. Cooper graduated May 14 from New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in Socorro, N.M., with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering.
He plans to work for the Air Force in Albuquerque, N.M., during the summer and pursue a master’s degree in the fall.
Cooper, a 2006 graduate of Silverado High School, is the son of Dan and Judy Cooper of Henderson.
Jesse Dwyer, 19, was named to the dean’s list for the fall and spring 2011 semesters at the University of Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky. His final grade-point average was 3.70.
Dwyer was selected for membership in the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society for first-year college students. He also was a senator and volunteer with the Student Government Association.
Dwyer, a varsity swimming letterman, qualified for five events at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics 2011 National Swimming Championships in St. Louis. He finished 15th in the nation in the 1650-yard freestyle.
A 2010 graduate of Spring Valley High School, Dwyer is the son of Jeff and Karen Dwyer of Las Vegas.
Nicholas A. Hardy, 18, has achieved Eagle Scout status in the Boy Scouts of America.
A senior at Clark High School’s Academy of Math, Science and Applied Technology, Hardy is a member of the baseball team, plays trumpet in the marching band and is a member of the Robotics and Chess clubs.
He enjoys music, computers, fishing, camping and dancing and hopes to pursue a career in computer programming.
Hardy is the son of Val Hardy and Lisa Hardy of Las Vegas.
Joshua Aaron Schussler has enrolled for fall 2011 admission at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, N.Y., where he plans to major in physics.
He plans to graduate in June from Palo Verde High School.
Schussler is the son of Mark and Helen Schussler of Las Vegas.
Talmaus Ewell of Las Vegas was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2011 semester at Chadron State College in Chadron, Neb.
A student must have at least a 3.5 grade-point average to be named to the dean’s list.
Jennifer Zuckerman received her master’s degree in educational leadership from UNLV on May 14.
A 2005 graduate of Sierra Vista High School, Zuckerman received her bachelor’s degree in public administration from the University of Arizona in 2008.
Zuckerman is the daughter of Joseph and Dana Zuckerman of Las Vegas.
Rebecca Zuckerman received her associate’s degree of applied science in baking and pastry from Kendall College in Chicago.
A 2009 graduate of Las Vegas Academy, Zuckerman is the daughter of Joseph and Dana Zuckerman of Las Vegas.
Isaac Katzanek, Matthew Carter and Trisha Brandonisio, all of Las Vegas, have been named to the dean’s list for the spring 2011 semester at the University of Evansville in Evansville, Ind.
Katzanek and Carter are theater majors, and Brandonisio is a theater management major.
A student must have at least a 3.5 grade-point average to be named to the university’s dean’s list.
Conor Fitzpatrick has graduated cum laude from Albion College in Albion, Mich., with a degree in political science and pursuing a self-designed major, and a concentration in the Gerald R. Ford Institute for Leadership in Public Policy and Service.
A student must graduate with at least a 3.5 grade-point average to earn the cum laude honor.
Fitzpatrick, a graduate of Foothill High School, is the son of Richard and Laura Fitzpatrick of Henderson.
