Favorite Sons & Daughters

Nicholas Flowers, a senior at Shadow Ridge High School, has been granted membership in The National Society of High School Scholars. The society recognizes top scholars and invites only those students who have achieved academic excellence.

He also was named Shadow Ridge’s athlete of the week in February. Flowers is the son of Bonita Riley of Las Vegas and Bradford Flowers of Westland, Mich.

Mariah Campbell, a sophomore kinesiology major at UNLV, was named student of the month by the Center of Academic Enrichment and Outreach for her dedication to the Student Support Services program.

Campbell is a member of the American (Pre-Med) Medical Student Association, Association of Pre-Health Professionals, Minority Students in Sciences Program and Rebel Service Council. She sits on the Adopt-A-School Committee as a student representative and is the youth program coordinator for Rebel Service Council. She is Miss Henderson International 2012 and plans to compete for the Miss Nevada International title on April 9. She hopes to attend medical school.

Lawrence “Larry” Brown IV, 23, has graduated from U.S. Army basic training at Fort Benning, Ga. He plans to attend Airborne school and Special Forces selection. A 2006 graduate of Centennial High School, Brown is the son of Larry and Celeste Brown of Las Vegas.

William Hooper Jr. has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. A 2010 graduate of Foothill High School, he is the son of William Hooper Sr. of Henderson.

Jason Rodriguez has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. Rodriguez is the son of Luis Rodriguez of North Las Vegas.

Justin Perry has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. A 2009 graduate of Sierra Vista High School, Perry is the son of Arianne Kissell of Las Vegas and grandson of Judy Shader of Spring Hill, Fla.

Jason Stewart of Henderson has been named to the dean’s list for the fall, 2011 semester at Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, Calif. Stewart is an accounting major.

Luke Luna has graduated from Army basic infantry training at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga. Luna is the son of Cindy Luna of Las Vegas.

Deneige Barr of Las Vegas has been named to the honor roll at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan. Barr is a senior who plays saxophone in the university’s school of music.

Zachary Early of Las Vegas has been named to the honor roll at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan.

A senior in linguistics, he was named to the honor roll for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Risa Clayton of Las Vegas has graduated from Concordia University in Portland, Ore., with a Master of Education degree in educational leadership.
