NONPROFIT PLANS SUPPLIES DRIVE TO HELP STUDENTS
HELP of Southern Nevada, a nonprofit organization that assists low-income families, plans a school supplies drive through Sept. 12 at its headquarters, 1640 E. Flamingo Road. HELP asks for backpacks, paper, pens, pencils, erasers, binders, notebooks, scissors or other supplies. The office is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Sushi Roku, 3500 Las Vegas Blvd. South, also is scheduled to collect supplies through Sept. 2 on behalf of HELP. Diners who donate will receive a free order of edamame.
FAITH LUTHERAN SEEKS VOLUNTEERS TO STAFF ON-CAMPUS STORE
Faith Lutheran Middle School & High School, 2015 S. Hualapai Way, is looking for volunteers to help staff its new campus store, The Shield. The store sells school supplies, uniforms, school-themed apparel, electronics and more. Hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Proceeds from sales at the store will benefit Faith Lutheran’s education initiatives, the school said. Volunteers would be responsible for selling merchandise, stocking, setting up displays and customer service.

SCHOOL DISTRICT SEEKS VOLUNTEERS FOR GRADUATION INITIATIVE
The Clark County School District is looking for volunteers for its Reclaim Your Future campaign, which encourages senior dropouts to return to high school and graduate. As part of the program, which started during the 2011-12 school year, school officials and volunteers visit hundreds of students’ homes on Saturdays during the fall and spring semesters.
The next outreach is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 7. To volunteer, visit tinyurl.com/ccsdreclaim to download a form and fax it to 702-799-6570. Forms are due Aug. 30.

HOMEWORK HOTLINE TO START IN SEPTEMBER
After-school homework help will be available to students through the Homework Hotline schedule to run from mid-September through May. Students of all grade levels can call 702-799-5111 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Selected questions will be presented from 4-5 p.m. on Cox cable channels 96 or 111.

JUNIOR LEAGUE OF LAS VEGAS TO AWARD $30,000 IN GRANTS TO TEACHERS
The Junior League of Las Vegas will award $30,000 in education grants to Clark County teachers to use during the 2013-14 school year. The grants, up to $1,000 each, can be applied to any “creative curriculum” in any subject.
Teachers at public and private schools of all grade levels are eligible. The grants are partly funded by a $15,000 grant from NV Energy.
Applications are available at jllv.org and are due Sept. 13.
