Dining pick of the week: The Chicken Shack

Inside Cactus Jack’s Saloon, 10648 S. Maryland Parkway, 260-8517

Steve Plummer has gone uptown with his delicious chicken. He is now inside Cactus Jack’s Saloon, where there are comfortable booths, plasma televisions and the pleasant atmosphere you get from a neighborhood saloon. Fresh chicken, featuring the 2-ounce boneless finger, is coated with a special mix and served with one of 14 sauces, the most popular being garlic Parmesan, ranch, blue cheese and honey habanero. Wings can be ordered from six to 100, while fingers can be ordered from five to 50. The No. 3 combo platter is three fingers with fries, and for the next two months, when you order any other combo, Plummer is letting you have the No. 3 for free. Among the sides are barbecue baked beans, macaroni salad, coleslaw and veggie sticks. Fries can be ordered regular or with cheese and homemade chili. The Shack Salad comes with fried or grilled chicken, while the Shack Pack is 25 wings or 20 fingers with three large sides for $26.95. All Shack Burgers come with fries, and the kid’s meal is two fingers with fries. A basket of wings or fingers begins at $5.95. The Chicken Shack is open daily for lunch at 11 a.m. and for dinner at 4 p.m.
