Dining pick of the week: Roly’s Bakery

1083 E. Tropicana Ave. at Maryland Parkway, 222-2223

It’s probably been a long time since you were in a Cuban bakery and café. Well, you don’t have to wait any longer. The many homemade pastries and cakes at Roly’s are delicious. Enjoy a slice ($2.50) of lemon, German chocolate, pineapple coconut, Black Forest, mango, guava or tiramisu cake with a hot cup of Cuban coffee. Thick-crust Cuban pizzas include sausage, onion, ham, cheese or vegetable. Among the lunch sandwiches are the famous Cuban made with marinated pork, ham, Swiss, butter, mustard and pickle on crispy Cuban bread. Others are turkey and cheese or ham and cheese croissant, croqueta (ground seasoned ham that is breaded and fried) and medianoche, or midnight, which is similar to the Cuban but served on a sweet roll. Several breakfast items are ham and cheese sandwich with tomato, Spanish sausage omelet, Cuban bread with croquettes and empanada gallega, Spanish sausage pie. The No. 2 breakfast combo is two eggs, Cuban bread toast, pastry and coffee. Breakfast is served daily from 7 to 11 a.m., and the remainder of the menu is available throughout the day. Lunch sandwiches begin at $3.95 and omelets at $3.45. Roly’s is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. — Jack Bulavsky
