Bite of Las Vegas set to give the senses something to munch on

Big names usually come at a big price in Las Vegas .

But with the goal of giving locals something special, Mix 94.1 FM’s Bite of Las Vegas has top-of-the-charts headliners scheduled for less than $10 .

"This year is probably our biggest line up," said Mallory Berry, the event’s organizer. "We’ve never had four acts before that can probably carry a show on their own. We want to give back to the community."

The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at Desert Breeze Park, 8425 Spring Mountain Road. Tickets are $9 at the door. Organizers expect up to 25,000 people throughout the day.

Pop singer Colbie Caillat hit radio airwaves in 2007 and has since had several hits, including "Bubbly," "Fallin’ For You," "Realize" and "Lucky."

Michelle Branch is known for singles "Everywhere," "Are You Happy Now" and the "Game of Love." She is a singer-songwriter and guitarist who became a popular mainstream artist in 2001.

O.A.R., or Of A Revolution, performs the theme song on "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" as part of its charity work. Its newest album "King" and single "Heaven" are climbing the charts. Other popular favorites include "Shattered (Turn The Car Around)" and "Love and Memories."

Mat Kearney is set to take the stage with his hip-hop style fused with an acoustic approach. He’s known for tracks "Closer to Love" and "Breathe In Breathe Out," along with new single, "Hey Mama."

Just added to the mix: 100 Monkeys, an independent funk rock band, has quickly risen to fame since member Jackson Rathbone played Jasper in the "Twilight" saga movie series.

Popular local bands The Cab and Imagine Dragons also are scheduled to perform.

"It’s an eclectic mix of music for a very good price," Berry said.

In the annual Battle for the Bite, four bands won the chance to play at the event. Offset Season, Play for Keeps, Avalon Landing and The English Channel are scheduled to perform on the Tropical Smoothie Local Stage.

Jered Jones, frontman for Offset Season, which took first in the contest, said he and his bandmates look forward to the show.

"We grew up listening to the station, and the Bite is always a huge deal," he said of his rock/pop band, which is promoting its debut album "Tonight." "We are honored to be part of it this year and especially to be headlining. It is going to be a great time."

Aside from a dozen bands, the event is also set to host about 40 restaurant vendors from Hash House A Go Go to Slidin’ Thru.

All the restaurant vendors have area locations, in an attempt for the event to be a true Las Vegas effort, Berry said.

"We want it to be a Las Vegas locals event," she said. "We want to give back to Las Vegas and make sure our business owners are getting back what they put into the community."

While the event is for all ages and will have a kids’ area, it won’t be short on alcohol for the adults, Berry said, adding that a local brewery will be part of the mix.

With great music and food for single-digit ticket prices, there is a bit for everyone at the Bite.

"The weather will be great," Berry said about the outdoor event. "It’s a real local vibe."
