FERRARO’S TO LAUNCH TASTE & LEARN SERIES JAN. 25

Ferraro’s Italian Restaurant & Wine Bar, 4480 Paradise Road, plans to launch a Taste & Learn series from 4 to 6 p.m. Jan. 25, with additional events planned for the coming months.

Guests will taste four wines from Sardinia and Sicily, accompanied by a small bite pairing. The sommelier choosing the wines will discuss origin, contents and the wine-making process of each one, while chef Mimmo Ferraro will talk about each of the food pairings.

DOWNTOWN FOOD TRUCK LOTTERY SET FOR JAN. 28

A food truck lottery for access to four downtown Las Vegas parking spaces is set for 8 a.m. Jan. 28 at City Hall, 495 S. Main St.

Food truck operators should register by 5 p.m. Jan. 27 at the Las Vegas Parking Services Office, 500 S. Main St. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Access to the four spots will be available on a rotating basis. The drawing is restricted to companies licensed to operate mobile food vending trucks inside Las Vegas city limits. Entries must be limited to one per company. There is a nonrefundable fee of $50 per licensee.

Spaces available are in front of the Regional Justice Center, 200 Lewis Ave., 100 Cincinnati Ave., 388 Promenade Place and the 1900 block of Goldring Avenue.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY HOUR TO SUPPORT LOCAL CHARITIES

In honor of the 20th anniversary of the House of Blues brand, the Foundation Room at Mandalay Bay, 3950 Las Vegas Blvd. South, plans to offer 20 Happy Anniversary Hour events through January.

A portion of the proceeds raised during each happy hour event will go to the charity. Patrons must be 21 or older. The rest of the happy hour schedule is: Jan. 23, date available; Jan. 24, Blues Society; Jan. 28, date available; Jan. 29, date available; and Jan. 31, U.S. Vets.

The Top of the World Restaurant in the Stratosphere, 2000 Las Vegas Blvd. South, plans to host a special food and wine event celebrating 17 consecutive years as a recipient of the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 22.

A seven-course tasting menu is planned, to be paired with selections from Joseph Phelps Vineyards. Bill Phelps, president of the vineyards, is set to attend.

SONS OF NORWAY PLAN LUTEFISK DINNER JAN. 25

The Sons of Norway plan to host a lutefisk dinner at 3 and 6 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Boulder City Elks Lodge, 1217 Nevada Highway.

The menu is set to feature lutefisk (codfish soaked in and then drained of lye) with melted butter or white sauce, roasted pork, boiled potatoes, peas and carrots, lefse (flatbread), coffee and iced tea, and Norwegian and other cookies. Aquavit, known as “water of life,” will be available at an open bar, and packets of lefse will be sold to take home.

Proceeds from the dinner will benefit the Sons of Norway Vegas Viking Lodge, a nonprofit group.

The cost is $20 for adults and $5 for children 10 or younger. No tickets will be sold at the door, and advance tickets must be purchased by Jan. 19.

IHOP TO HOST PANCAKE-EATING COMPETITION THROUGH JAN. 26

IHOP restaurants plan to host a pancake-eating competition, through Jan. 26. Winners will compete in the inaugural Pancake Bowl on Feb. 1.

Guests can enter at their local IHOP by ordering all-you-can-eat pancakes and trying to earn a spot on the leader board. The top-scoring pancake eater will receive free pancakes for one year.

On Feb. 1, the top 10 pancake eaters in the Las Vegas area will compete for a $500 IHOP gift card.

VIA BRASIL STEAKHOUSE OFFERS NEW MENU OPTIONS, ANNOUNCES SUPER BOWL SPECIALS

Via Brasil Steakhouse, 1225 S. Fort Apache Road, has added a new rodizio select menu available Monday through Wednesday for $29.99. It offers 10 all-you-can-eat meats with the full gourmet appetizer bar and side dish options.

The restaurant also is offering Porterhouse Thursdays in January, with an additional prime cut of meat at no additional charge.

For the Super Bowl on Feb. 2, specials are planned to start at 2 p.m., including a rodizio meal for $36.99 or only the salad/appetizer option for $19.99. Game-day foods planned include chili, chicken wings and a sandwich station. Wristbands will be $39 for those with a Resort Rewards card and $49 without a card at the cashier’s cage. Cocktails, beer and wine will be offered at all casino bars, and a hot dog cart will be at the casino valet entrance with $1 hot dogs and other snacks.

BELLAGIO ANNOUNCES CULINARY CLASSROOM SCHEDULE FOR 2014

The Executive Chef’s Culinary Classroom at the Bellagio, 3600 Las Vegas Blvd. South, has announced its schedule for 2014. The educational series includes interactive cooking classes led by executive chef Edmund Wong and his team. Each two-hour class is held in Tuscany Kitchen, a state-of-the-art demonstration kitchen.
