Coroner IDs woman killed in southeast valley crash

A woman who died Thursday night after a sedan struck a trailer and a wall in the southeast valley was identified by the Clark County coroner’s office Friday.

Tonnisha Thomas, a 19, of Las Vegas, died at the scene, Las Vegas police said.

A 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix was westbound on Vegas Valley Drive, near Tahoe Drive, when the driver lost control of the vehicle, crossed into the eastbound lanes and went off the roadway about 10:48 p.m., police said. The car hit a construction sign trailer and the block wall to the backyard of a home before coming to a stop after colliding with a power pole.

The driver, a 28-year-old man, suffered minor injuries, police said, adding that speed may have contributed to the crash.

No citations were issued, but the crash remains under investigation.

This was Metro’s 85th traffic-related fatality for 2014.
