Coroner IDs motorcyclist killed in Las Vegas crash

Updated May 14, 2018 - 4:27 pm

The Clark County coroner’s office identified the motorcyclist killed in a crash early Sunday after an impaired-driving suspect ran a red light.

The Nevada Highway Patrol said that Keith Allen Welshiemer, 52, had the green light when he was struck by a Cadillac sedan in the intersection of Flamingo Road and the northbound Interstate 15 on-ramp. Trooper Travis Smaka said Welshiemer was knocked off his motorcycle and into a taxi, and he died of multiple blunt force injuries at University Medical Center.

Juan C. Valtierrez, 47, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and reckless driving. He is facing several other charges, including resisting a public officer, failure to pay full attention to driving and failure to obey traffic laws. He is being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center, and his 72-hour hearing is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
