Clark County coroner says infant died from accidental suffocation

A 3-month-old girl who died in July after her mother was struck by a car while trying to call for help suffocated in her bedding while she slept, according to the Clark County coroner’s office.

The coroner ruled Rhylee Brown’s death an accident.

Las Vegas police said her mother was intentionally struck by a driver in the southeast valley July 11. She had gone outside to get better cell reception while she called for medical assistance.

Metro patrol officers were sent to the 3300 block of East University Avenue, near Harmon Avenue and South Pecos Road, just after 7 p.m. to look into reports that the woman had been struck. The woman told first responders that her baby had died.

Both Rhylee and her mother were taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. Rhylee was pronounced dead at Sunrise Hospital and her mother was treated for injuries that were not life threatening.

Detectives from the homicide and the abuse and neglect units responded to the scene and determined that the woman got home to find her baby was not breathing.
