Budget chief replaces Finger as assistant county manager

Yolanda King, Clark County’s director of budget and financial planning, has been promoted to assistant county manager, county officials announced Friday.

King, a longtime county employee, will replace Assistant County Manager Ed Finger, who is resigning for a job at a wastewater reclamation district in Colorado. The appointment will need a vote by the Clark County Commission at its June 4 meeting.

“Yolanda has been a key member of the senior management team in the County for a number of years and I have a great deal of confidence in her and her abilities,” County Manager Don Burnette, who made the appointment, said in a statement.

King became the budget director in 2006, overseeing the preparation and management of the county’s $6.2 million budget. She starting working part time for the county in 1986. She also has overseen the county’s procurement and contracts function and served as a lobbyist during the state’s legislative sessions. She has 16 years of public budgeting experience and four years of auditing experience.

“Working for Clark County and being a public servant has truly been a blessing and I look forward to this next chapter in my career,” King said in a statement.

The assistant county manager position, one of three in the county, oversees risk management, fire, human resources, election, audit and information technology departments and the Clark County Shooting Complex.

King holds a dual bachelor of science degree in accounting and management information systems from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and a master’s of business administration from the University of Phoenix.

County management is evaluating whether to hire someone to take over King’s budget director duties. As the budget director, King earns an annual salary of $122,262 and will be eligible for a raise due to the promotion, with the amount not yet determined.
