Bicyclist killed in crash on Bonanza at Nellis

A 50-year-old bicyclist died Monday after an east Las Vegas Valley crash involving multiple vehicles.
The crash happened at 11:44 a.m. near the intersection of Bonanza Road and Nellis Boulevard. The bicyclist and two vehicles were traveling in the same direction in the far left lane of of Bonanza, east of North Prescott Street, at the time of the crash, Metro traffic Sgt. Richard Strader said.
A 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer hit the bicyclist from behind and a 2006 Toyota Tundra ran into the back of the Chevrolet, Metro wrote in a release.
The man, who was riding a Haro mountain bike, was not wearing a helmet when he was hit, Strader said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 57-year-old woman driving the Chevrolet and the 59-year-old woman driving the Toyota did not report injuries, the release said. Metro did not say if either driver was cited.
The Clark County coroner’s office will release the bicyclist’s name after his family has been notified.
This was the 9th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.
