A Chevrolet Cobalt hit the bike around 9:20 p.m. in the 3100 block of Las Vegas Boulevard North near North Pecos Road, according to Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Jeff Dean.

The Cobalt was northbound on Las Vegas Boulevard when the driver went off the road. The car struck the bicyclist, who was riding on the east sidewalk, according to a Metro press release. The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The bicyclist’s uncle, Alex Ramirez, identified him Saturday as Abe Mendibles, 41.
