Baja Fresh to donate 50 percent of sales for construction worker’s funeral

Baja Fresh Mexican Grill plans to donate 50 percent of its Labor Day weekend sales to help pay for the funeral of Mark Brian Lovett, the welding inspector who fell to his death while inspecting a job site in Summerlin earlier this month.

Malik Asif, who owns nine Baja Fresh’s stores in the Las Vegas Valley and California contacted Lovett’s older brother, Gary Lovett, and offered to help.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is still investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Lovett, who fell Aug. 20 while inspecting a mall under construction near the Red Rock Casino.

A report is expected to be issued in three to six months, OSHA officials said.

Although Lovett has since been cremated, the cost was $13,000, his brother said.

“We’re so grateful that Baja Fresh is helping us out,” Gary Lovett said. “It’s really touching all our hearts.”

The Baja Fresh locations participating in the fundraiser are: Summerlin: 7501 West Lake Mead #100; Texas Station: 2101 Texas Star Lane; 1380 East Flamingo Road; BOCA Park location, 8780 West Charleston Avenue; 4343 North Rancho Road #100; 4916 South Fort Apache Road #101; 1392 South Nellis Blvd #A; 675 Mall Ring Circle, Henderson; and 9310 South Eastern Ave. #101.

A memorial ride in Lovett’s honor is being planned and will be announced at a later date, his brother said.
