19-year-old man agrees to plead guilty to DUI in Egg & I restaurant crash
A 19-year-old man has agreed to plead guilty to DUI charges for crashing a speeding vehicle into a crowded Las Vegas restaurant while under the influence of prescription drugs, marijuana and “spice,” a synthetic form of marijuana.
Gage Lindsey was arrested April 1, 2013, after crashing his car into the the Egg & I restaurant on Sahara Avenue near Decatur Boulevard and injuring nearly a dozen people.
Lindsey will plead guilty to two counts of driving under the influence and causing substantial bodily harm in front of a district judge April 24, his lawyer Sean Sullivan said.
As part of a deal, Clark County prosecutors will drop four other charges against Lindsey.
Lindsey faces 2 to 40 years in prison. He will likely be sentenced at a later date.
“He’s willing to accept responsibility for his actions.” Sullivan said of his client, noting that Lindsey has already served more than a year in jail. “He has total remorse.”
Lindsey wants those who were hurt to be able to put this behind them and hopes they are able to recover, Sullivan said.
Lindsey was driving a 1993 Lexus LS400 about 12:30 p.m. when he struck a median, crashed into two other vehicles and drove into the outdoor courtyard of the Egg & I.
The Lexus crashed through the restaurant’s window, where it finally stopped.
Ten people went to the hospital. Four people eating in the courtyard — three adults and one child — were pinned under the car.
The injuries ranged from minor to critical, but everyone survived.
Lindsey tried to run from the scene but was stopped by restaurant patrons.
He told Las Vegas police he blacked out before the crash and appeared groggy hours afterward. He told police he didn’t know what day it was.
Lindsey remains jailed at the Clark County Detention Center on $500,000 bail, records show.
