1 found dead in south Las Vegas fire

Updated November 2, 2024 - 12:41 pm

One person was found dead in an early Saturday morning fire at a south Las Vegas apartment complex that has been the scene of several fires in recent years, including another blaze in October.

At 3:13 a.m., the Clark County Fire Department was notified about a house fire at 9457 South Las Vegas Blvd., said Assistant Fire Chief Carlito Rayos in an email.

“No residents were displaced or required sheltering needs,” Rayos said. “The cause of the fire as well as the death are yet to be determined; this case is open and ongoing.”

Crews arrived within seven minutes of the initial call Saturday and found a vacant, single-story apartment building with heavy smoke and flames erupting from multiple units. According to Google Maps, the Paradise Spa Apartments are located at that address.

As firefighters fought the blaze, the incident commander requested more crews to prevent the possible spread of the fire, Rayos’ email said.

Roughly 15 minutes later, the fire was contained.

During a primary search, crews found a dead person, said Rayos.

Rayos added that 63 personnel were at the scene and that the Metropolitan Police Department, the Clark County coroner’s office, and NV Energy were among the assisting agencies.

Saturday’s fire marks the latest in a series of fires at the apartment complex. Nearly two weeks ago, a bedroom fire broke out, but there were no reported injuries. In 2016, eight of the 16 apartments at Paradise Spa burned, displacing twenty people. In 2012, an early morning blaze caused $150,000 in damages and displaced two people.
