1 dead after 2-car crash in west Las Vegas Valley

Updated July 10, 2019 - 5:54 pm

A 47-year-0ld Henderson man died after a crash in the west valley on Wednesday afternoon, Las Vegas police said.

Officers were called about 1:35 p.m. to the scene of the crash involving two cars near Fort Apache and Flamingo roads. Detectives believe a 2008 Nissan, driven by a 38-year-old woman, was stopped for a red light at the intersection when a 2017 Ford Escape struck the back of the Nissan, causing a “minor traffic collision,” according to a Metropolitan Police Department news release.

The Nissan’s driver got out of the car and found the 47-year-old man driving the Ford “unresponsive,” police said.

The man was taken to Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said. His death may have been caused by a “medical issue,” but his cause of death hadn’t been confirmed Wednesday, Metro spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said.

Metro will not count his death as a traffic-related fatality until the Clark County coroner’s office determines his manner of death, police said. The coroner’s office will identify the man after his family has been notified.
