1 dead, 1 injured in central Las Vegas crash
A 64-year-old man was killed when a suspected DUI driver blew through a red light early Wednesday in the central valley, Las Vegas police said.
About 3 a.m. at East Flamingo Road and Swenson Street, the man who was killed was driving his Chevrolet Cobalt north on Swenson through the intersection. The suspect, identified by Las Vegas police as 34-year-old Steven Terry, was heading east on Flamingo.
Police suspect Terry of running the red light and crashing his Chrevolet Camaro into the Cobalt. Both men were taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where the 64-year-old died.
Terry was treated for moderate injuries and later arrested at the hospital for charges related to the crash, the Metropolitan Police Department said. His exact charges were not immediately known, but Metro said Wednesday that he was suspected of driving impaired.
The impact of the crash sent both vehicles off the roadway, and Metro Lt. David Gordon said that at least one of the cars caught fire. One vehicle could be seen Wednesday morning in the landscaping outside a gasoline station.
The man who died will be identified by the Clark County coroner. His death was the 118th traffic fatality investigated this year by Metro.
