Small fire triggers fire, police response at Henderson high school

A small fire at Coronado High School in Henderson on Thursday triggered a police and fire response but caused little damage.

The fire broke out about 2:10 p.m. when a student lit a paper Student Council sign on fire, a spokesman for the Clark County School District said.

The burning sign, which was taped to the wall above lockers in one of the school’s hallways, emitted a lot of smoke. School staff dialed 911 and pulled fire alarms before extinguishing the fire.

The Henderson fire and police departments responded to the call, and ensured the scene was safe prior to letting staff and students back on campus by 2:40 p.m.

An investigation on who started the fire is being conducted.
