Henderson City Council studies fire station expansion
Henderson Fire Station 83 may soon expand.
The Henderson City Council at its Tuesday meeting will consider approving a funding agreement Tuesday that would expand Station 83, one of the city’s oldest fire stations.
Built in 1988, the station, located at 100 Burkholder Blvd., serves the downtown, eastside and Tuscany redevelopment districts.
If approved, the $350,000 expansion will add a third apparatus bay and expanded quarters for two additional firefighters, who will staff a second rescue unit. District 83’s geographic boundaries will not change with the expansion.
“The station is located in the busiest district in Henderson,” city spokesman David Cherry said. “The proposed expansion is needed to meet the demand for emergency services as the neighborhoods that it serves continue to grow.”
Since the beginning of the year through November, the fire station received 4,531 calls for service.
Construction would start in fall 2018 and finish in summer 2019. The station would remain open during construction.
Funding would come from the city’s redevelopment agency.
