A male motorcyclist was killed in a crash in the east Las Vegas Valley on Monday evening.
The rider’s death marked the first traffic-related fatality for the Metropolitan Police Department in 2025.
The crash occurred around 7 p.m. on East Flamingo Road and McLeod Drive, according to the department.
Impairment did not appear to be a factor in the crash, but speed was, according to Metro Lt. Braden Schrag. The motorcyclist, a man in his 20s, died at the scene. He was operating a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle.
The driver of the car that collided with the motorcycle remained at the scene and cooperated with police, Schrag said.
In a later statement, police said the “motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Flamingo Road faster than the posted limit, approaching the intersection with South McLeod Drive on a green traffic signal. A 2015 Nissan Versa was westbound on Flamingo Road and attempted a left turn to southbound Mojave on a flashing yellow arrow signal. A collision occurred when the Nissan crossed the path of the motorcycle. The motorcyclist was ejected from the motorcycle and was deposited onto the roadway.”
Another motorcyclist was critically injured in the east valley earlier Monday. Also, a pedestrian died in a crash Monday night near UNLV, Metro’s 2nd traffic-related fatality in 2025.
