1 dead after single-vehicle crash in Las Vegas

Updated June 1, 2022 - 4:16 pm

A man died Monday afternoon after a car crashed into a central Las Vegas apartment building.

Police were called to East Desert Inn Road and Arapaho Circle at 4:01 p.m., Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Brian Boxler said, after reports that a 2022 Chevrolet Malibu had gone off the road and crashed into a wall.

The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, Boxler said. No other injuries were reported.

The Clark County coroner’s office Wednesday identified the driver as Dennis Romero, 26.

Police later said in a news release that the Malibu was heading west on Desert Inn when it “failed to maintain the travel lane” and drove off the road. The car eventually crashed into a tree next to the apartment building, police said.

Desert Inn was closed in both directions while police investigated. Police said as of Tuesday morning they had not yet confirmed the identity of the driver.
