Tickets sell out for grand opening of Universal’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter

If you were starting to feel a case of “Harry Potter” fever coming on — and were strongly considering calling in sick from work tomorrow to attend the grand opening celebration of Universal Studios Hollywood’s new Wizarding World of Harry Potter — you may not want to throw on your invisibility cloak just yet.
According to Universal, theme park tickets for Thursday’s opening day of J.K. Rowling’s magical world have completely sold out — marking the first time ever that the theme park has had to stop online ticket sales.
“We have been getting ready for this exciting day for the past five years and share the exhilaration with those guests who’ve made April 7th a sell-out day. This incredible consumer demand speaks largely to the arrival of ‘The Wizarding World of Harry Potter,’ and the dramatic 75 percent transformation of Universal Studios Hollywood into an entirely new destination,” President of Universal Studios Hollywood Larry Kurzweil said.
Although a representative for Universal could not comment specifically on the venue’s capacity, Universal’s Special Events Department lists the Wizarding World of Harry Potter as being available for event rental with a capacity of 2,000.
With that in mind, there’s a pretty good chance tickets will sell out through the entire weekend.
The park’s “VIP Experience” and “Front of Line” ticket options have also sold out from Thursday’s grand opening through Saturday, April 9, Universal said.
