THE LIST

DVDS

"Premonition" (PG-13): Sandra Bullock stars as a woman with an incredibly scrambled timeline. One day her husband (Julian McMahon of "Nip/Tuck") is dead, the next day he isn’t, then he’s about to be and then he’s perfectly safe. Is she cracking up? Is his death inevitable? Can she rewrite the future (or the past)? Can you have any better luck than she does in understanding what’s going on? Also available on Blu-ray.

Also out today: "Avenue Montaigne" (PG-13); "Showgirls: Fully Exposed Edition" (R); "Factory Girl" (unrated); "The Hills Have Eyes 2" (R); "Red Dawn: Collector’s Edition" (PG-13); "TCM Spotlight: Esther Williams, Volume 1" (unrated); "Gunsmoke: The First Season" (unrated); "Space Ghost and Dino Boy: The Complete Series" (unrated).

CDS

The Chemical Brothers, "We Are The Night" (Astralwerks):Big, block-rockin’ beats, drums for days, and puddles of sweat on the dance floor: The Chemical Brothers have returned with all their trademarks intact.

Of course, one of the DJ duo’s most definitive traits is their impulsiveness, as they plow through disparate sounds — from psychedelia to hip-hop to indie rock — like a cement truck crashing through a record store.

On "We Are The Night," they come with plenty of hyperventilating electronica, along with appearances by an eclectic roster of guests including the Klaxons, Willy Mason, Midlake and rapper Fatlip.

And so, despite the title of their latest, the sun has yet to set on these two.

Also in stores today: Laurie Anderson, "Big Science"; Broadway Cast, "Legally Blonde"; Colbie Caillat, "Coco"; Minnie Driver, "Seastories"; Editors, "An End Has a Start"; Garbage, "Absolute Garbage"; Emerson Hart, "Cigarettes & Gasoline"; Raul Malo, "After Hours"; Rooney, "Calling the World"; Michael Sembello, "Bossa Nova Hotel"; Soundtrack, "High School Musical 2: What Time Is It?"; Teddy Thompson, "Up Front and Down Low"; Various, "Now 25"; Suzanne Vega, "Beauty & Crime."

BOOKS

"The Tin Roof Blowdown" (Simon & Schuster): James Lee Burke, author of the Dave Robicheaux mystery series, takes on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in a book that’s receiving acclaim as one of his best. The Pulitzer Prize-nominated author takes Robicheaux, the Iberia Parish, La., sheriff’s detective, to New Orleans where he searches for two serial rapists, a drug addicted priest and a vigilante.

Also on shelves today: "Devil’s Labyrinth" (Ballantine) by John Saul; "Someone to Love" (Atria) by Jude Deveraux; "First Commandment" (Atria) by Brad Thor; "What Matters Most" (Bantam) by Luanne Rice; "Inner Workings: Literary Essays 2000-2005" (Viking) by J.M. Coetzee; "Up Close and Dangerous" (Ballantine) by Linda Howard; "The Water’s Lovely" (Crown) by Ruth Rendell; and "Eye of the Beholder" (Putnam) by David Ellis.
