San Diego Zoo celebrates centennial — PHOTOS

The San Diego Zoo, founded by Dr. Harry Wegeforth on Oct. 2, 1916, is celebrating its centennial.

The 100- acre zoo, which grew out of the Zoological Society of San Diego, is home to more than 3,500 rare and endangered animals.
