Greater Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church, 1915 Lexington St., will celebrate its mass choir’s anniversary with “A Candlelight Musical” at 6 p.m. Sunday (647-3071).
SERVICES
Greater Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church, 1915 Lexington St., will celebrate the pastoral anniversary of the Rev. Dr. Welton T. Smith III and first lady Debra R. Smith during services on March 3. The following pastors will be guest speakers: the Rev. Don Burse of One Body in Christ Christian Church at the 8 a.m. service; the Rev. John Wayne Arnold of Mount Zion Church at the 11 a.m. service; and the Rev. Dr. Robert E. Fowler of Victory Missionary Baptist Church at the 3 p.m. service (647-3071).
EVENTS
The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Las Vegas and Left of Center Gallery will offer a panel discussion on “Nuclear Weapons Testing — Effects on Civilian Populations” at 12:30 p.m. today at the gallery at 2207 W. Gowan Road, North Las Vegas. On March 2, there will be a community forum on “Fair Wages and Benefits for Las Vegas Workers.” The forums are in conjunction with the Social Justice Exhibitions on display at the gallery (647-7378).
St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 204 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson, will celebrate its 70th anniversary and Feast Day with a festival today and Saturday. The Soka Gakkai International Las Vegas Region will present the black history program “Honoring Black Heroes and Sheroes, Past and Present” at 6 p.m. today at SGI Buddhist Center, 2725 W. Charleston Blvd. The program will feature historical, political, spiritual, educational and theatrical depictions, music by the SGI Band, African and Taiko drumming, dancing and other activities. It is free and open to the public (258-6489).
Temple Beth Sholom, 10700 Havenwood Lane, will have its annual Purim Shpiel from 6:15 to 8 p.m. today. The theme is a “Miserable Purim,” featuring characters from “Les Miserables” done with a twist. A traditional Megillah reading will be at 6:20 p.m. followed by a family Megillah reading at 6:45 p.m. It is open to the public. On Sunday, a Purim carnival, featuring games, prizes, pony rides, monster bouncy houses, food, drawings and other activities, will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free. Proceeds will benefit the temple’s youth programs (804-1333).

The Silver State Ushers will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Greater Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church, 1915 Lexington St. Ushers-nurses and greeters from local churches interested in joining the group may attend (233-6199).
The St. Margaret of Cortona Secular Franciscans Fraternity of Las Vegas meets at 12:30 p.m. the fourth Sunday of the month at Pace E Bene offices, 1420 W. Bartlett Ave. (453-2417).
Hindu Temple & Jain Center of Las Vegas, 1701 Sageberry Drive, offers Balaji Abhishekam services at
10:45 a.m. the first Saturday of the month in the temple, and Aarti Pooja services at noon Sundays (304-9207).
