RELIGION NOTES

MUSIC

The music department of Holy Trinity AME Church will present the cantata “Christmas, Sing Noel” at 4:45 p.m. today at 700 Lola Ave., North Las Vegas (877-0790).

The Desert Winds wind ensemble will perform “A Winter Celebration” at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Desert Spring United Methodist Church, 120 N. Pavilion Center Drive. The concert will feature a variety of traditional and new holiday music. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted (625-2787).

Christ Church Episcopal, 2000 S. Maryland Parkway, will present a handbell choir concert directed by Janet Ty at 4 p.m. Sunday. A freewill offering will be taken (735-7655).

The Sonrise Singers of Sunrise Baptist Church will present the free Christmas musical “Majesty of Heaven” at 6 p.m. today and at 10:45 a.m. Sunday at 1780 Betty Lane (452-8599).

Israeli singers Barry and Batya Segal will perform familiar holiday and Messianic songs at 11 a.m. Sunday at Four Seasons Church of Las Vegas, 2890 S. Durango Drive, Suite 103. The performance also will feature a presentation about their ministries Vision for Israel and the Joseph Storehouse (431-5892). The Segals also will perform a holiday concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 24 at Lev HaShem Messianic Congregation, 3644 N. Rancho Drive (869-8983).

SERVICES

Reformation Lutheran Church, 580 E. St. Louis Ave., will offer a Christmas Eve candlelight service at 6 p.m. (732-2052).

EVENTS

The Redrock Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will present “The Nativity,” a 25-minute production of the account of Jesus Christ’s birth, with live music and Nativity displays at 6, 7:30 and 9 p.m. today at Opportunity Village Engelstad campus, 6050 S. Buffalo Drive. The program is free (thenativitylv.com).

Lamb of God Lutheran Church, 6220 N. Jones Blvd., will present a live Nativity scene 4-9 p.m. today. The free event will include cocoa, cider and cookies (645-4998).

Mountain View Baptist Church Academy will present the original Christmas play “The Reason Behind the Season” at its worship service at 5 p.m. Sunday at 7830 W. Ann Road. Admission is free (242-1778).

As part of the Winter in Venice celebration, The Venetian will host Jewish Community Night from 9 to 11 Thursday at 3355 Las Vegas Blvd. South. The fee is $36 and includes two hours of ice skating and riding the outdoor gondolas, kosher-style hors d’oeuvres, beverages and music. The event is for ages 21 and older. The Jewish Community Center of Southern Nevada will have its 17th annual Bagel Ball 8 p.m.-1 a.m. Dec. 24 at Beso Ultra Lounge, Crystals at CityCenter, 3720 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served from 8 to 10 p.m. Advance tickets are $25 for members and $30 for nonmembers; $40 at the door (jccsn.org).

Congregation Shaarei Tefilla will celebrate the second night of Hanukkah with a candlelighting ceremony, a kosher dinner, live entertainment and children’s activities at 6 Wednesday at Oasis RV Resort, 2711 W. Windmill Lane. Tickets are $36 for adults, $15 for ages 3-12 or $100 for a family pass for two adults and two children. Reservations are required by Sunday (384-3565).

MEETINGS

The Las Vegas Lay Dominicans will have their monthly meeting featuring prayer, formation activities and a Communion service, 10 a.m.-noon today at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Newman Community, 4765 Brussels St.
