RELIGION NOTES

MUSIC

Green Valley Presbyterian Church, 1798 Wigwam Parkway, Henderson, will present a concert featuring the Westminster College Chamber Choir at 7:30 p.m. today. Admission is free (454-8484).

Christ Church Episcopal, 2000 S. Maryland Parkway, will host a concert featuring the Harmony Ringers and the Summerlin Ringers directed by Janet Ty at 3 p.m. Sunday. A goodwill offering will be taken. On Friday, lyricist Susan Bentall Boersma and the church choir will perform at 7:30 p.m. A $15 donation is suggested (735-7655).

SERVICES

Reformation Lutheran Church, 580 E. St. Louis Ave., will hold an outdoor church service and picnic at 11 a.m. Sunday at Spring Mountain Ranch. The event is jointly hosted by Eden Korean Presbyterian Church, Nueva Vida Baptist Church and Reformation Lutheran Church (732-2052).

NorthGate Christian Church will hold a groundbreaking service for its new sanctuary at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at 725 E. Washburn Road in North Las Vegas. The future site is on the corner of Washburn Road and Donna Street. Weekly services will continue to be offered at 10 a.m. Sundays at Canyon Springs High School, 350 E. Alexander Road, North Las Vegas (384-6960).

EVENTS

The Jewish Community Center of Southern Nevada will celebrate Israel Independence Day from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Sands Expo and Convention Center, 201 Sands Ave. The event will feature performances by magician Seth Grabel and Israeli rock group the Peatot Band, a scavenger hunt, balloon art and face painting, Jewish youth choir performances, dancing and other activities. For National Day of Prayer on Thursday, community prayer events will be offered at the following locations: noon at Grant Sawyer Building, 555 E. Washington Ave.; noon at Henderson Events Plaza Amphitheatre, 200 S. Water St.; noon at North Las Vegas City Hall, 2250 Las Vegas Blvd. North; 6 p.m. at Las Vegas City Hall, 495 S. Main St.; and 6:30 p.m. at Boulder City Library Amphitheatre, 700 Adams St. A Governor’s Prayer Breakfast will be at 7 a.m. at The D Hotel, 301 Fremont St., $20. Reformation Lutheran Church, 580 E. St. Louis Ave., will have its annual parking lot sale 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 5. Tables are available to rent to sell items for $15. The event will also feature a bake sale and food court (732-2052).

Temple Sinai, 9001 Hillpointe Road, will offer a progressive dinner 6-10 p.m. May 19 featuring a four-course meal, entertainment by Irv Weinberger and Daniel Sinai. Tickets are $25 in advance. The reservation deadline is May 9 (254-5110).

The Center for Spiritual Living, 1420 E. Harmon Ave., will present Omnipure Transformational Music and Education’s DNA Music with Solfeggio Frequencies Workshop at 6:30 p.m. May 11. The fee is $35 and includes a CD and the workshop (739-8200).

Desert Spring United Methodist Church, 120 N. Pavilion Center Drive, will present “Oliver! The Musical” at 7 p.m. Friday and May 11, and 3 p.m. May 5 and May 12. Tickets are $5 at the door (241-4349).

The Las Vegas Lay Dominicans will have an inquiry meeting at 9:30 a.m. today, followed by their monthly meeting 10:30 a.m.-noon at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Newman Community, 4765 Brussels St.

CLASSES

Trinity Life Center, 1000 E. St. Louis Ave., will offer the Financial Peace University 13-week course taught by Dave Ramsey beginning at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday (734-2223).

Community Baptist Church, 245 E. Foster Ave., Henderson, offers a free reading program for all ages 7-9 p.m. Wednesdays (565-0071).

SINGLES GROUPS

St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church has a singles dinner for ages 60 and older the first Wednesday of the month at 4:30 p.m. at Black Mountain Grill, 11021 S. Eastern Ave., Henderson (796-1953).

New Life Christian Center has a singles meeting at 7 p.m. the second Friday of the month at 1229 E. Carson Ave. (387-5433).
