MUSIC

Good Samaritan Lutheran Church, 8425 W. Windmill Lane, will host a performance by California Baptist University’s Male Chorale at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the church sanctuary. Admission is free. Following the performance, the church will host auditions for scholarships for high school juniors and seniors and junior college students planning on pursuing music at a four-year university (873-3589).

University of Nevada, Las Vegas vocal students will present a classical music recital at 7:30 p.m. May 9 at Green Valley Presbyterian Church, 1798 Wigwam Parkway, Henderson. The students will attend the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, this summer. A freewill donation will be accepted to help support the students (454-8484).

Mountain View Presbyterian Church, 8601 Del Webb Blvd., will have a free Mother’s Day Concert featuring soloist Lakesha Harden, the Glen Willow Trio and vocalists Mark Wherry and Voltaire Versoza at 3 p.m. May 10. A freewill offering will be accepted to help support Harden’s travel expenses to Europe for the American Institute of Musical Studies opera program (341-7800).

EVENTS

The National Day of Prayer will feature an opening ceremony at noon Thursday with the All Service Color Guard, first lady Dawn Gibbons and community leaders at the Grant Sawyer Building, 555 E. Washington Ave. At 6 p.m., Mayor Oscar Goodman will give a reading of the Proclamation of the National Day of Prayer for the city of Las Vegas at City Hall Plaza, 400 Stewart Ave. (www. nationaldayofprayer.org).

Green Valley Presbyterian Church, 1798 Wigwam Parkway, Henderson, will have a Swap Meet & Craft Show 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m. May 9 (454-8484, ext. 245).
