MUSIC

“Harmony for Haiti,” a benefit concert in support of the Haitian disaster relief effort, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 6 at Green Valley Presbyterian Church, 1798 Wigwam Parkway, Henderson. The concert will feature graduate students from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas music department performing spirituals as soloists and as an ensemble. A freewill offering will be taken, with proceeds donated to the American Red Cross (454-8484).

EVENTS

Canyon Ridge Christian Church, 6200 W. Lone Mountain Road, will have “A Night of Compassion” to raise funds for the victims of the Haiti earthquake at 7 p.m. Sunday in the church auditorium. The event will feature Christian ventriloquist and comedian Taylor Mason, worship and prayer. A freewill offering will be accepted, with funds raised going to Compassion International (658-2722).

Reformation Lutheran Church, 580 E. St. Louis Ave., will host a community forum with Charles Fitzgerald of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans to discuss “Long-term Care is a Family Affair” at 10 a.m. Feb. 11. Attendees may bring a sack lunch. Coffee and cookies will be provided (732-2052).

CLASSES

Canyon Ridge Christian Church, 6200 W. Lone Mountain Road, will offer a seminar featuring authors Henry Cloud and John Townsend, co-authors of the “Boundaries” series, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. today in Room C100. The authors will appear live via satellite to discuss establishing healthy boundaries in relationships and in life. Seating is limited and child care will not be available. Tickets are $20 and include snacks and drinks (658-2722).

Stillpoint Center for Spiritual Development will present a discussion by Noah Blumenthal, author of “Be the Hero: Three Powerful Ways to Overcome Challenges in Work and Life,” at 3 p.m. today at Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave. A reception and book signing will follow the presentation. The fee is $30. To register, call 243-4040.

Reformation Lutheran Church, 580 E. St. Louis Ave., offers English as a Second Language classes at 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays (541-1952 or 732-2052).

The Las Vegas Diamond Way Buddhist Group offers guided meditation and dharma talks at 7:45 p.m. Thursdays (260-4426).

Govinda’s Center of Vedic India, 6380 S. Eastern Ave., offers Mantra Meditation, a presentation of Indian Vedic Wisdom, vegetarian snacks and literature at 6 p.m. Sundays (434-8332).

Community Baptist Church, 245 E. Foster Ave., Henderson, offers a free reading program for all ages 7-9 p.m. Wednesdays (565-0071).

SINGLES GROUPS

The Jewish Community Center of Southern Nevada, Temple Sinai and Congregation Ner Tamid offer a variety of programs for Jewish singles of all ages in Las Vegas and Henderson. For details, call the Jewish Community Center at 794-0090, Temple Sinai at 254-5110 or Congregation Ner Tamid at 733-6292.

New Life Christian Center has a singles meeting at 7 p.m. the second Friday of the month at 1229 E. Carson Ave. (387-5433).

Single Adults Learning Together, or SALT Ministries of CornerStone Christian Fellowship, meets at 6 p.m. Saturdays at 5825 W. Eldora Ave. (871-5050).
