Religion Notes

King David Memorial Chapel and Cemetery will sponsor Kever Avot v’lmahot memorial services in conjunction with the Board of Rabbis of Southern Nevada on Sept 12. Rabbis and cantors from Southern Nevada synagogues will conduct the services at the following times and locations: 10:30 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1500 Las Vegas Blvd. North; 1 p.m. at King David Memorial Chapel and Cemetery, 2697 E. Eldorado Lane; and 1 p.m. at Palm Mortuary and Memorial Park — Northwest, 6701 N. Jones Blvd. Attendees will receive stones to place on their loved ones’ graves and a free yahrzeit candle to take home. In the spirit of the High Holy Days and tzedakah, attendees are asked to bring a donation of canned or dry food items for the food pantry at the Jewish Family Service Agency of Las Vegas (464-8570).

SERVICES

Greater Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church, 1915 Lexington St., and its pastor Dr. Welton T. Smith III, will celebrate the church’s 64th anniversary at 8 and 11 a.m. worship services on Sept. 12. The Rev. Henry K. Smith, associate minister, will speak at both services. A “Sacrificial Offering March” showcasing the various church ministries and leaders will take place during the 11 a.m. service. A fellowship with light refreshments will follow the service (647-3071).

MEETINGS

The Sathya Sai Baba Devotional Singing Group meets at 5 p.m. Sundays at 1128 Triumph Court (461-8655).

Reformation Lutheran Church, 580 E. St. Louis Ave., offers English as a Second Language classes at 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays (334-2487 or 732-2052).

The Las Vegas Diamond Way Buddhist Group offers guided meditation and dharma talks at 7:45 p.m. Thursdays (260-4426).

Govinda’s Center of Vedic India, 6380 S. Eastern Ave., offers Mantra Meditation, a presentation of Indian Vedic Wisdom, vegetarian snacks and literature at 6 p.m. Sundays (434-8332).

Community Baptist Church, 245 E. Foster Ave., Henderson, offers a free reading program for all ages 7-9 p.m. Wednesdays (565-0071).

Singles groups

The Jewish Community Center of Southern Nevada, Temple Sinai and Congregation Ner Tamid offer a variety of programs for Jewish singles of all ages in Las Vegas and Henderson. For details, call the Jewish Community Center at 794-0090, Temple Sinai at 254-5110 or Congregation Ner Tamid at 733-6292.

New Life Christian Center has a singles meeting at 7 p.m. the second Friday of the month at 1229 E. Carson Ave. (387-5433).

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church sponsors singles groups for professionals 25 to 45 years old and a singles group for people 45 and older (228-8311, ext. 7333 or 7334).

Single Adults Learning Together, or SALT Ministries of CornerStone Christian Fellowship, meets at 6 p.m. Saturdays at 5825 W. Eldora Ave. (871-5050).
