Tours set to teach residents about design center

Tucked within the massive World Market Center Las Vegas complex downtown is a unique design and home-fashion treasure: the Las Vegas Design Center.

With more than 30 showrooms and hundreds of designer brands featuring home furnishings, décor, lighting, floor coverings, fabric, trim, and accessories, the design center is open and accessible to the public 50 weeks of the year.

To give area residents an insider’s fast track to all the things they need to know about shopping and buying at LVDC, the center is hosting one-hour guided tours complete with coffee, bagels and advice by design gurus. “Design Center 101” dates are May 14, May 21, June 4 and June 25 from 10:30-11:30 a.m.

The design center is located on the first two floors of Buildings A and C of World Market Center Las Vegas and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. It is the single largest offering of home furnishings in Las Vegas.

Encompassing close to 400,000 square feet, the design center caters to just about every style and taste — from classical to contemporary and everything in between. No appointment is necessary to visit and consumers are free to browse at their leisure throughout the showrooms or go to the Design Salon for complimentary assistance from an accredited American Society of Interior Designers professional who can act as a concierge (or personal shopper) directing consumers to the showrooms that best suit their taste, style, needs and budget. When ready to make a purchase, the Design Salon will pair consumers with a design professional who will assist in the purchasing process. Or, they are allowed to bring their own designers to the center.

There are no preset spending guidelines at the design center .

The center is closed to the public during the biannual Las Vegas Market in January and August, when the entire complex operates as a trade-only facility.

Gaining control over this annual weed is not easy to do

To make sure it doesn’t return you have to interrupt the seed-to-flowering-plant cycle at least for a couple of years and fill the voids with something competitive.

Why did my bird of paradise plants quit blooming?

They were in bloom when we planted them five or six years ago, and they bloomed the following year as well. But they have not bloomed again.
