: We want to dress up our baby’s room with some accents and install wallpaper border around the top near the ceiling and around a door frame. We tried hanging wallpaper on a wall in the past and the results were disastrous. Please say that wallpaper border is easier.

: In your recent article “Heat, rock mulch will harm photinias,” you state the writer may opt to use plants that tolerate heat better near hot walls. Could you provide a list of such plants? I’m getting ready to convert my lush landscape to xeriscape and have several hot areas near walls. I would like to know which plants may have a chance at surviving with rock mulch.

: After watching a video of orchards and the use of mulch around the base of the trees, I am considering ordering an electric chipper to deal with my tree and shrub trimmings. But, the chipper isn’t cheap and I have heard that you should not use tree trimmings for mulch because the decomposition consumes nitrogen that would otherwise be used by the mulched plants. Any suggestions? Should I compost it first?

: I had to turn off the water supply valve at the top of my water heater. So I turned it, but it kept on turning and turning without shutting off the water. A neighbor of mine said it is a gate valve and they are cheap. Anyway, I now have to replace the valve. Are there any options for replacing it with the same type of valve?
