Now ideal time to create plan for outdoor living

Yes, it’s true, Christmas bells are still ringing in our ears and the surrounding mountaintops still have traces of snow, but what better time to get ahead of the curve and start thinking about outdoor furniture than now? Ring in the new year and start laying plans for the outdoor life that we enjoy so much of the time here in Las Vegas.

World Market Center ‘HELPs’ families in need

It was a day for holiday cheer and holiday tears of joy at HELP USA Las Vegas’ Renaissance Apartments as World Market Center Las Vegas donated furniture to families in need as a part of the its annual Furniture Donation Day.

Friend, sure footing key to ladder safety

: My homeowners association sent me a letter stating that I need to paint the fascia of my roof. It is fairly high up, so I need an extension ladder of around 30 feet. I’m wondering if I should get an aluminum ladder or a fiberglass one, and how do I maneuver it around?

Resolve to make a plan for home’s décor

Didn’t I just say, “Can it really be Halloween?” and now it’s almost New Year’s. New Year’s Day is my favorite holiday; I love the excitement of a new beginning. I look at every day as a new day to start over, but there’s just something about a new year. It gives me permission to wipe the slate clean and stop beating myself up about the things I didn’t get done.

DREAMING OF A GREEN CHRISTMAS

After weeks of standing around doing nothing but looking beautiful — with a short stint of guarding pretty packages from jolly old St. Nick — it’s time to put your Christmas tree to work. That’s right, work.

Prepare now for next year to reduce your stress

“The stockings were hung by the chimney with care …” Christmas is eight days away, and Hanukkah began at sundown on Dec 11. The joy we feel going into the holiday season can quickly turn to stress as we try to fit celebrations, gift buying and decorating into our already busy schedules.

Workshop to focus on winter vegetables

Some examples of container plants, such as leaf lettuce and endive, will be demonstrated.

Old dreidels are a rare find

Christmas is celebrated on Dec. 25 each year, but the eight-day Jewish holiday of Hanukkah falls on dates determined by the lunar, not the solar, calendar — so the dates are different every year.

Challenges of 2009 offer valuable lessons

It has been a year of learning. With economic challenges at every turn throughout 2009, many have been forced to do more with less. People have downsized, minimized, economized and localized. In a sense it could be considered a sort of natural correction. As we move forward into the new year we should not forget these important lessons.
