Be green and clean
Now you can be clean and green at the same time.
Vaska, a Berkeley, Calif., producer of botanically based laundry care products, has introduced bag-in-a-box packaging that reduces the use of plastics about 62 percent.
The new package, called Jerribox, consists of a plastic bag contained within a 50 percent post-consumer recycled paperboard exterior. It uses about 62 percent less plastic compared to the bottles that are the industry standard for laundry detergents, according to the company.
The 150-ounce, 100-load package is currently being filled with Vaska’s lavender-scented herbatergent and is being sold at Sam’s Club stores in Nevada and California.
“Vaska’s approach to manufacturing is to create the safest, most effective laundry care products, and packaging is a key component,” said Julia Fry, chief executive officer of Vaska.
Vaska’s laundry line includes 48-ounce and 96-ounce lavender scented and unscented herbatergent, a nonchlorine oxygenbleach, herbasoft fabric softener and spot remover.
The new packaging falls in line with the company’s use of herbs and potent botanical cleaning agents to manufacture its laundry products. According to the company, its herbatergent helps clothing stay brighter, last longer and feel softer without chemical residues that can cause skin irritation and fabric damage.
Many of Vaska’s products carry the Environmental Protection Agency’s DfE seal and all are biodegradable and gray water safe.
