National Water Safety Month observed in May

As part of an ongoing effort to promote water safety, May has been declared National Water Safety Month. Water safety month is a joint effort of the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals, the National Recreation & Park Association and the World Waterpark Association.

The observance recognizes the popularity of swimming and other water-related recreational activities in the United States, and the need for ongoing public education on safer water practices.

The month-long celebration includes educational programs, public service announcements, governmental proclamations, dealer and business promotions, and the distribution of water-safety-themed materials, aimed primarily at the public and designed to prevent drowning and water-related illness and injuries.
