Howard Miller clock pays homage to CEO

Howard Miller has recently released a limited edition clock that is bound to become a legacy and gain value over time.

“Our designs are timeless and of the highest quality — they will last for generations,” said Mark Siciliano, director of marketing.

What makes Howard Miller clocks the antiques of the future?

“Craftsmanship. Our clocks are all hand-finished. Each cabinet is completely sanded by hand, not once but twice. The warm resonance of the chimes is the sound that turns a house into a home,” Siciliano said.

The new design, the J.H. Miller, was designed by Chris Bergelin and is named after the former chief executive officer of the company who recently retired after 48 years of service. The company was founded by his father, Howard C. Miller.

Finished in Windsor cherry, the clock features 16 species of hardwoods and veneers. The swan-neck pediment is crowned with three carved finials, two carved rosettes and a carved finial shell at the center. Also on the pediment is book-matched Russian walnut burl with floral inlays framed with a movinque border with ebony and maple accents.

The bombé base has similar details. Upper and lower columns are reeded and have carved acanthus accent moldings and column caps.

Beveled glass is featured on the front and sides.

The ornate, polished-brass Roman numeral dial features custom-cast corners and center, as well as moon arch ornaments unique to the clock. The cast center disk is numbered and features a removable plate for inscriptions.

A matching lyre pendulum features a cast center disk with a spun-silver background and is complemented by weight shells embellished with decorative bands with a silver-tone background.

Also featured is a cable-driven, triple chime movement with an automatic nighttime shutoff and sequential chime options.

The floor clock stands 94 1/2 inches tall and is 31 inches wide. There are adjustable levelers under all four corners.

It retails for about $19,000. There also is a version of the clock with a triple-chime tubular movement that has a suggested retail price of $22,270.

Based in Zeeland, Mich., Howard Miller has been crafting wood furnishings for more than 80 years. Its offerings include clocks, display cabinets and wine and spirits furnishings.
